THE YEARS OF THE TIGER
(1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950,
1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022)

The Metal Tiger year starts on February 14, 2010.  For western world types, the date is doubly significant because it falls on Saint Valentine's Day. Music Maestro Please! Drum rolls and festivities for everyone and of course extra loving for lovers everywhere.

Tiger years are notoriously turbulent. Political unrest, coups d'états, and natural catastrophes often strike during these action-packed years. So... if you were born under an active, energetic and even slightly rebellious New Astrology sign, you will be drop-dead-in love with this coming year's rambunctiousness. If, on the other hand, you prefer quietude, security and serenity, 2010 might not star as the most tranquil year of your life.

If you love movement and surprises, you will be in your element. But if you are someone who loves deep, quiet forest silence and solitude, in the Metal Tiger year,  you may feel like crawling back under the covers and waiting out the tumult.

During a Tiger year, nobody should leap before he examines any forthcoming venture or adventure. The Tiger, though noble and honorable, endows a year with uncertainty and danger. Tigers never know where they might place their next paw. In Tiger years it is incumbent upon the rest of us to face head-on collisions with our own reversals. When we least expect calamity, it surges out of nowhere. Same goes for extreme pleasure and breath taking thrills. Much willpower and wisdom is required of us during these testy times. Get ready for the roller coaster ride of your life. Luckily, on February 2 of 2011, the ride will be over. Cat/Rabbit will be tiptoeing in to set things to rights in his or her own quiet way - and with dignity.

2010 will be a volatile year, engendering clashes and disputes in every part of the world - and even in families and love matches.  This year will start with a bang. In the first half, everything will seem to be expanding, then exploding. But the year slowly winds down toward December and will end more serenely than it began.   But hold on to your hats because 2010 is earmarked for sudden skirmishes, disagreements, disasters, ecstasies and gratifications of all stripes. Tigers, after all, are excessive.

2010 will also be a year for temerity about daring to change, for erasing the past and starting over. Nothing small or measly will happen. Think large scale everything.  The Tiger also infuses the atmosphere with his courage and pluck. In 2010, we won't always feel safe. But we will often be excited and exhilarated. This will be a year for extremes in both misery and joy.  Fortunes can be made and oh so quickly be gone up in smoke. The tendency is for dramatic upheaval. You leave your spouse and immediately get married to a lover with whom you almost know at the start that you can never find long term harmony. You sell your home and decide to move into a condo and right away feel cramped and nostalgic for your big sprawling house. Or you may change jobs midstream, just dash away from a sweetheart, move to a new city or country. Tiger years are about startups, new beginnings and espousing change. That is what make them so dashing and exciting to certain members of the New Astrology roster. And so absolutely shiveringly frightening to others.

In 2010, people get up to astonishing deeds on the spur of the moment. They suddenly take off on an expedition to the South Pole or they decide to move the whole family to Australia from Manitoba or Bedlam, Idaho. In this year, Transition is favored.  If you have been dreaming of becoming a ballet dancer after years of digging in a mine, now's the time. Pick up and change your life. Or else you'll have to accept to be cowering in a corner with your teeth chattering as you watch the whirlwinds go by.

Heads of state and heads of household alike may allow their tempers to rage. Diplomacy seems to be a thing of the past. Likewise, secrets will be outed in the wink of an eye, unusual health problems will arise out of nowhere and your friends may go AWOL without so much as a whisper of a why. We will all feel abandoned at one time or another during this Tiger year, because the nature of the tawny beast is to turn tail and decide to change his stripes at a moment's notice. Where? What? Huh?  We will all do a lot of head shaking and wondering what the hell just happened. No logic or reasoning can figure it out. So stop trying the very first day of the year and instead (because it's Valentine's Day)  take your sweetie out for a super candlelight dinner and gear up for a full year of feisty turbulence -  white knuckles and all.

Relationships, contracts and agreements requiring mutual confidence  and collaboration may prove unsound and leave us gasping. This is often a difficult time and shakes us up. But the flip side is that it leaves us with a chance to pick ourselves up, brush ourselves off and start all over again. This Tiger year will offer us all the courage we need to face adversity and wriggle out of tight spots.

Tigers are vigorous people who know how to carry heavy emotional weight and brave sticky legal situations. They willingly (and sometimes thoughtlessly)  pounce on  lost causes, sinking ventures and failing businesses. To this year, the Tiger brings derring-do and impulsive fearlessness. You may meet with some major obstacles. Don't panic. The Tiger is not vengeful. He doesn't hold a grudge. But he does expect you to overcome those obstacles and return to the fray wearing a triumphant smile on your formerly disappointed face.

The Tiger's impulsive spirit will no doubt touch everyone's life. If ever you were planning to pull off some chancy caper or make an uncharacteristic flash decision, go for it.  The Tiger will be on your side.

If you are a Pisces/Goat, a Libra/Cat/Rabbit or another of the "softer" New Astrology™ signs , you may be shaking in your boots. Relax. The Tiger is an effusive character who, despite his penchant for quarrel and collision, is a veritable warehouse of merriment and a fund of dazzlingly novel ideas to amuse and delight you. If you like inventive, cheerful, intense and edgy people (and who doesn't?) , you can look forward to a rollicking 2010.

KARL LAGERFELD, a celebrated Tiger fashion designer, said on French TV today "I love everything that fashion is criticized for. I live for change and tearing down the past to build the future. That's what (Tigers and) fashion is all about."

Did 2009 leave you feeling restless? Too much plodding and not enough newness? Time to switch gears. But don’t shift directly in fourth or you’re liable to stall out. Find a comfortable speed to function at. Probably just above the speed limit. The Tiger is at his best when in motion. Just like Geminis. But know that the Tiger would never travel using cruise control. He might come to a screeching halt or accelerate 60 miles in under three seconds. No worries though. The unpredictability of this sly cat shouldn’t be a problem for you. Your quick-witted nature will keep you on a par with him. The Tiger is also a playful creature. Enjoy the surprises in store for you. But a word of caution. The Tiger will not only swat crazy, catnip filled toys at you, but also prickly and sticky situations. Especially when you least expect it. I have no doubt that you’ll be up to dealing with the rambunctious antics of this ferocious feline. But you will need to work at becoming focused. Geminis are the ultimate multi-taskers. Sometimes, however, your verve in taking on new projects often leads projects already in the works to backslide. Follow the Tiger’s lead and rise to the challenges scheduled for 2010. But you’d be wise to brush up on your juggling skills. The juggler who always gets the most applause is the one who never drops a ball. And you know how much felines love to play with balls.

Tiger years are full of hasty rash moves and risky changes of direction. In the early part of the year, you might still be reeling from what the last couple of adverse years have done to your gentle spirit. Once you are back up on your bunny feet and feeling hippity hop tip top, you will be pleasantly surprised at how clement, easygoing and devil-may-care the atmosphere is in this Tiger year. Many of the major events happening this year will affect you directly. A person or people whom you didn’t know till now will approach you at several different times for your assistance or engagement in their projects. Remember. You work best with Pigs and Goats. Whatever you do, don’t take up with a headstrong Horse or a daring Dragon. Their very style abrades your delicate nervous system. By year’s end you should be feeling terrific and perhaps even a bit sentimental. Why not spend some quality time with old friends from school or grab your mom or dad and hie them off somewhere exotic where you can stroll along a beach and learn more about your childhood. Health looks relatively good this year for Cat/Rabbit people. Keep to your diet and exercise routine or you will spend the better part of next year getting rid of excess weight.

As we move into 2010, frustrations will be running high for Geminis. You may feel that the forces that be are conspiring against you, preventing your projects from moving forward. Work is simply not progressing at the pace you desire. A few unexpected expenses may arise. Electronics may be on the fritz. Hang in there until the New Moon on the 15th. Until then, find ways to alleviate your stress. Decompress with yoga. Or participate in amateur theatricals. Even though some chilly winds may blow into your love sector, listen to your instincts. If something doesn’t seem quite right with your romantic interest, it probably means something is being concealed from you. Speak up. Ask questions. Don’t wait around fretting. He or she will either come around or they won't. Meanwhile, spoil yourself. Buy some flowers. Prepare a candlelit dinner for one. Remember that the more you treat yourself well and consider yourself deserving of love, the more you invite love into your world. Whatever you do Gemini, make sure to carve out time for you, and you alone. Do things you like to do. You are even advised to do nothing. A little bit of dead space in your hectic daily life would do you good. Lastly, as the Ox year comes to a close on Feb 13th be sure you are ready for the frenzied Tiger year. Be clear about your business and work goals. Where do you see yourself in two years? In five years? With the Tiger year careening in to begin a sizzling year on February 14, you had better get ready to put your toys away and shift into serious business mode. Unlike the Ox, the Tiger doesn't demand that members of your sign slog away and drag rocks uphill 24/7. Instead, the tawny beast wants Action, Speed, Efficiency. Tigers are impetuous and successful, erratic and effective. This odd combination is exactly everything the serenity-loving Cat/Rabbit hates. You would rather stick to tradition, take the long view and chug along merrily hoarding your money and building a fortune for posterity. Not so the Tiger. He's going to be on your butt all year long. Pushing and prodding you to accept - nay - to welcome change. So in this final month and half of Ox influence, take stock. Look your life square in the face and tell it to get ready to get flexible. For the moment, you can kick back - make love, buy antiques and soak up all the culture January has to offer. But when February looms, prepare for a hectic, but altogether clement year ahead. Your love picture looks a tad jagged around the edges now. Make an extra effort to please. Spend less money. Do more exercise and slim down to your sveltest. Your health will hold up if you husband it. Take your vitamins. Use your head when consuming fattening foods. Eat more salads and protein. Scratch pasta and eschew bread.

    

On the first Saturday of the month you may collide with a charismatic character, who could have you smitten in seconds. This charming person isn’t what they appear to be. Or what you may dream they are. Enjoy the attention and seduction of this admirer who knows how to spar with you intellectual savvy and your quick wit. If you’re looking for a distraction and a bit of an ego boost, this person fits the bill. There’s no harm in having some fun. During the first two weeks of the month a relationship (perhaps not this one) may come to an abrupt end. But not to worry. This friendship or tie is not one you will grieve. If you think about it, wasn't this particular person holding you back? He or she constantly caused you to second-guess yourself. Kept you from growing. Instead of being shaken by drama of the split, reflect on how much lighter you feel without them in your world. Sometimes we need to eliminate dead wood. Luckiest when it removes itself. Perfect timing, too. On the 14th, we enter the New Chinese Year of the Tiger. Naysayers have no room in your Tiger life. Now's the time to surround yourself with action-oriented, positive people. The temperamental Tiger heralds for a tumultuous year. Best to have a strong supportive network of pals and cronies in your life. Equally as important is keeping fit. Incorporate some sort of physical activity into your life two to three times a week. Can’t find the motivation to go to the gym? Why not satisfy your urge for the new and untried? Won't it be fun to perform at kids' parties or dance Capoeira or swing on your trapeze in front of an applauding audience?

    

Time has been weighing you down for quite some time now. Your health accident back in 2008/9 is far behind. You are mended and itching to get down to work again. You even feel ready to take up a new project. Although you are not often spurred to hurry through life, this Tiger year (which beings in Feb 14) is going to fuel a dormant sense of entrepreneurship which has too long been pedaling vapidly in jelly. What was keeping you from being your own boss is not clear. But I do know that you will be suddenly motivated and even catapulted into a work mode you thought was never going to return. February is a hinge month for Cat/Rabbits. You will be molting from placid home-loving pussy Cat/Rabbit to steamroller status. It's more of a feeling than a fact. But you have this inner urge and it will not shut up. You skin is blooming with health. You want action. Be patient. It's coming. One thing to watch out for. There is someone in your entourage who doesn't want you to succeed. Whether they fear the loss of your company or they are jealous is of no importance. Their resistance must cease. You ought to be able to easily identify this person. The hard part will be to neutralize them. It may have to mean the end of a friendship. But you're the diplomat of the Chinese Zodiac, you should be able to negotiate a truce. Money is not rolling into your coffers right now. But you do have enough to occasionally splurge on a fancy dinner or a theatrical or museum opening. You need culture. You require art in order to thrive. Do not neglect this aspect of your character now or you may experience anxiety and even depression. Your love life is on track right now. You have made plans with your sweetie. They will come to fruition. But it will take time. February then is for planning and cogitating. It is also a time for renewing acquaintance with routine hard work. Take it slow. Nothing is on fire.
