THE YEARS OF THE TIGER
(1902, 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950,
1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022)

The Metal Tiger year starts on February 14, 2010.  For western world types, the date is doubly significant because it falls on Saint Valentine's Day. Music Maestro Please! Drum rolls and festivities for everyone and of course extra loving for lovers everywhere.

Tiger years are notoriously turbulent. Political unrest, coups d'états, and natural catastrophes often strike during these action-packed years. So... if you were born under an active, energetic and even slightly rebellious New Astrology sign, you will be drop-dead-in love with this coming year's rambunctiousness. If, on the other hand, you prefer quietude, security and serenity, 2010 might not star as the most tranquil year of your life.

If you love movement and surprises, you will be in your element. But if you are someone who loves deep, quiet forest silence and solitude, in the Metal Tiger year,  you may feel like crawling back under the covers and waiting out the tumult.

During a Tiger year, nobody should leap before he examines any forthcoming venture or adventure. The Tiger, though noble and honorable, endows a year with uncertainty and danger. Tigers never know where they might place their next paw. In Tiger years it is incumbent upon the rest of us to face head-on collisions with our own reversals. When we least expect calamity, it surges out of nowhere. Same goes for extreme pleasure and breath taking thrills. Much willpower and wisdom is required of us during these testy times. Get ready for the roller coaster ride of your life. Luckily, on February 2 of 2011, the ride will be over. Cat/Rabbit will be tiptoeing in to set things to rights in his or her own quiet way - and with dignity.

2010 will be a volatile year, engendering clashes and disputes in every part of the world - and even in families and love matches.  This year will start with a bang. In the first half, everything will seem to be expanding, then exploding. But the year slowly winds down toward December and will end more serenely than it began.   But hold on to your hats because 2010 is earmarked for sudden skirmishes, disagreements, disasters, ecstasies and gratifications of all stripes. Tigers, after all, are excessive.

2010 will also be a year for temerity about daring to change, for erasing the past and starting over. Nothing small or measly will happen. Think large scale everything.  The Tiger also infuses the atmosphere with his courage and pluck. In 2010, we won't always feel safe. But we will often be excited and exhilarated. This will be a year for extremes in both misery and joy.  Fortunes can be made and oh so quickly be gone up in smoke. The tendency is for dramatic upheaval. You leave your spouse and immediately get married to a lover with whom you almost know at the start that you can never find long term harmony. You sell your home and decide to move into a condo and right away feel cramped and nostalgic for your big sprawling house. Or you may change jobs midstream, just dash away from a sweetheart, move to a new city or country. Tiger years are about startups, new beginnings and espousing change. That is what make them so dashing and exciting to certain members of the New Astrology roster. And so absolutely shiveringly frightening to others.

In 2010, people get up to astonishing deeds on the spur of the moment. They suddenly take off on an expedition to the South Pole or they decide to move the whole family to Australia from Manitoba or Bedlam, Idaho. In this year, Transition is favored.  If you have been dreaming of becoming a ballet dancer after years of digging in a mine, now's the time. Pick up and change your life. Or else you'll have to accept to be cowering in a corner with your teeth chattering as you watch the whirlwinds go by.

Heads of state and heads of household alike may allow their tempers to rage. Diplomacy seems to be a thing of the past. Likewise, secrets will be outed in the wink of an eye, unusual health problems will arise out of nowhere and your friends may go AWOL without so much as a whisper of a why. We will all feel abandoned at one time or another during this Tiger year, because the nature of the tawny beast is to turn tail and decide to change his stripes at a moment's notice. Where? What? Huh?  We will all do a lot of head shaking and wondering what the hell just happened. No logic or reasoning can figure it out. So stop trying the very first day of the year and instead (because it's Valentine's Day)  take your sweetie out for a super candlelight dinner and gear up for a full year of feisty turbulence -  white knuckles and all.

Relationships, contracts and agreements requiring mutual confidence  and collaboration may prove unsound and leave us gasping. This is often a difficult time and shakes us up. But the flip side is that it leaves us with a chance to pick ourselves up, brush ourselves off and start all over again. This Tiger year will offer us all the courage we need to face adversity and wriggle out of tight spots.

Tigers are vigorous people who know how to carry heavy emotional weight and brave sticky legal situations. They willingly (and sometimes thoughtlessly)  pounce on  lost causes, sinking ventures and failing businesses. To this year, the Tiger brings derring-do and impulsive fearlessness. You may meet with some major obstacles. Don't panic. The Tiger is not vengeful. He doesn't hold a grudge. But he does expect you to overcome those obstacles and return to the fray wearing a triumphant smile on your formerly disappointed face.

The Tiger's impulsive spirit will no doubt touch everyone's life. If ever you were planning to pull off some chancy caper or make an uncharacteristic flash decision, go for it.  The Tiger will be on your side.

If you are a Pisces/Goat, a Libra/Cat/Rabbit or another of the "softer" New Astrology™ signs , you may be shaking in your boots. Relax. The Tiger is an effusive character who, despite his penchant for quarrel and collision, is a veritable warehouse of merriment and a fund of dazzlingly novel ideas to amuse and delight you. If you like inventive, cheerful, intense and edgy people (and who doesn't?) , you can look forward to a rollicking 2010.

KARL LAGERFELD, a celebrated Tiger fashion designer, said on French TV today "I love everything that fashion is criticized for. I live for change and tearing down the past to build the future. That's what (Tigers and) fashion is all about."

The Ox year of 2009 was well suited to your pace. Nice and easy. Step by step. Nothing a little elbow grease couldn’t fix. Well, time to buckle up. The Tiger’s in charge now. We both know that you aren’t a fan of sudden change. Sorry to say, but the Tiger thrives on it. You can try and fight it. But just as you can be stubborn, this feline is also unrelenting. Once he decides to make his move there is nothing, not even a raging bull, who can stop him. Upheaval is on the agenda for all of us, including Taureans. Your mountain to climb this year is all about learning to be flexible.. Not a strong suit of folks born under a Taurus Sun. But the Tiger doesn’t care. He will dare you to go with the flow. If you are stuck in a particular area of your life, 2010 is the perfect time to break out your rut. Take the Tiger’s challenge. If you don't, you’re liable to be sulking at home while others transform their own worlds pounce after pounce. Strengthen your resolve. Let it overshadow your fear of change. This frisky feline, no matter how unpredictable, wants to see you succeed. Plan and prepare. No need to take outlandish risks. But if you seize the opportunities the Tiger bats your way, the results will be more than pleasing.

After a couple of slow, but not disastrous years, you will take wing and soar over all you survey. I have mentioned several times that Oxen often become dictators. But curious as it may seem, so do Tigers. The style is different. But the aim is the same. Tigers like to imagine themselves the saviors of a people for a cause (Ho Chi Min, Ayatollah Khomeini, Castro) whereas Oxen might just take over because they want to take over. (Idi Amin, Saddam Hussein, Napoleon). So this is your year to rule. You will no doubt adore the power, but you probably will not abuse it as you will be using your superior position to further an ideal – something you are proud of and wish to impart to others. If, however, you let the notion of power for its own sake take over, you will have a dreadful Tiger year. Do also remember that this year you must plan the next 12 years of your existence. Don’t let the months slip by without sitting down with yourself somewhere quiet (countryside, retreat, mountain top etc.) and thinking hard about where you want to be in 12 years. Then decide how you want and need to behave in order to reach that goal. A dozen years may seem like a long time. But life is shorter than we think and those who plan ahead and stick to their timetables are those who live longest in health and happiness.

You will no doubt still feeling the effects of dietary indiscretions in December. January is a good month to implement that fitness routine you have too long been postponing. We often procrastinate because our expectations are too high. No need for killer workouts. You're not prepping for a triathlon. Start by taking a brisk walk for half an hour each day. Instead of tiring you the walk will boost your energy levels (and help reduce the circumference of your waistline). Between the 4th and the 15th, you might encounter a few work-related snags, do not despair! These hitches are but small hurdles. Maintain your professionalism. Avoid finger-pointing. Concentrate your energies on problem-solving. Remember that every conflict has a solution. Utilize your exceptional creative energy to collaborate with others. But in so doing, be sure to curb your stubborn streak. And most importantly, be flexible. The higher-ups are paying attention. By the end of the month, most work tensions should be resolved, or at least minimized. As the Ox year comes to a close, now is the ideal time to give your home a face-lift. And you don’t need to spend a dime to do it. Donate clothes that you haven’t worn in at least one year. Rearrange your furniture. Give away knick-knacks and trinkets that only serve to collect dust. Be sure to finish up that project you started a while back, be it organizing your paperwork, cleaning out the kitchen cupboards, or refinishing that great piece of antique furniture you purchased months ago. You don’t want to leave any loose ends dangling as we move into the feisty Tiger year in the middle of next month. The rambunctious Tiger will demand your full attention.

On February 14 of this year, you will be anointed King/Queen of this earthly jungle in which we all live and breathe. I won't say I envy you the upcoming year's responsibilities. But fear not! Tigers can handle almost anything - that is until you get bored with it. This month of January ought not to pose too many major hurdles for Tiger people. You lived rather scatteredly all last year, seeking direction in many different areas and finding out that you still don't really have a focus. Use this first month of the western calendar to take stock. The problems you face are personal and of an existential nature. You have won quite a chunk of success in areas you always wanted to master. Now you are at sixes and sevens about your future. Not to worry. Start to plan the next 12 years, NOW. In a month and a half, you'll be busier than a caged lab rat on amphetamines. So right now take a breather and make a plan. This month is excellent for travel. Grab a week or two and take off somewhere new. To be satisfactorily accompanied by someone who never answers back, why not go alone? Romance is on the back burner for Tigers right now. Tough it out. There is plenty of passion in your future this year. Play your cards right and you may even fall in love - in the Springtime of course. Your health picture appears rosy for the beginning of 2010. But the financial picture is more red than rose in January. Debt is sneaky. It creeps up on you. Cut back. I realize you hate rules. But get serious. Establish a budget and begin a weight and health maintenance diet. Resolutions are not just for Oxen and Horses, the also pertain to you, Tiger.

    

Beginning on the 6th of this month and lasting until the 2nd of March, you might experience conflicts that demand you be in two places at the same time. This may mean your home and work life will be at odds. Avoid making hard and fast promises to your special someone. Even if you're almost certain you'll be able to keep them. Chances are, you won't. Your loved one will not be thrilled. Make up for it by leaving pick-me-up post-it notes for your mate in unlikely places. Send a 'Just Because' e-card. You might be bogged down with work commitments. But you can most certainly steal a few minutes out of your day to show that you care. Directly after the Tiger takes over on Valentine's Day, change will be upon us. You, Taurus, are at your best when life is predictable. Prepare to be ill-at-ease. When the Metal Tiger pounces into our world on February 14th, we will all need to buckle up. 2010 will bring its fair share of upheaval. Now, more than ever, you will need to be living in a well-balanced body and keeping a clear mind. Ensure you incorporate some sort of physical activity into your daily routine. Power-walk for 20 minutes after lunch. Engage in gentle stretching while watching your favorite sitcom. Bypass the elevator and opt for the stairs. With a clearer mind and stronger physique you will be much better equipped to cope with the unpredictable movements of the Tiger. If you live in a cold climate, do not leave your neck exposed. This month you will be especially vulnerable to laryngitis. Beware. Don't swallow your emotions or hide your feelings. Speak up. If not angry sentiment is likely to manifest in throat ailments.

    

On the 14th of this month, you will be obliged take charge of your own life and that of all your fellows. It is indeed an honor to have 2010 be your very own year. But it's also a huge responsibility. For starters, you have to take a good, hard look at your existence and make some serious "existential" decisions about where you want to be a dozen years from now. Write it all down. What do you want to accomplish in 2010, 2011, 12, 13,14 etc... Don't hold out hope for the end of the world in 2012 just so you can slack off . Get on with planning 12 years ahead. That's your first job. Then, you have to put out a few fires in your current life. What has been bothering you? Irking you? Irritating or upsetting you over the past few years. A sibling. A spouse. A child. A house. A friend. A boss. A pet. An in-law. Time to decide to sever some ties, get rid of dead wood and walk tall toward the future without the weighty burdens you have too long been entertaining as welcome guests in your psyche. Confusion does not lead to advancement. If you need help sorting through all of these, get some professional assistance. Choose from among shrinks, astro counselors or Neuro Linguistic Programming. But remember the steps you take at the very beginning of this New Chinese year will affect your life for the next dozen. After you have done all that, then take a look at what February wants to do to your western sign. Tigers will want passion to return to their lives this year. Hot, steamy love scenes and that delicious sinking feeling we get with LOVE. February will not be the time for such events. But wait. They are on their way. What February does have in store for you Tigers is kudos for past achievements, expressions of fidelity in friendship and an influx of cash from an unexpected source. Travel? A bit. But not too far from home. You have work to do close by. Health? Same old same old. Diet and exercise. If you don't nip the flab in the bud it will catch up to you - fast!
